Reading skill

Make a simple inference without guessing

Combine two clear clues to reach a practical conclusion that the text supports.

Start with stated facts

Write the two details that matter. An inference must be built from the text, not from a personal story or outside knowledge.

Use cautious language

The text may suggest that someone is worried, late or likely to act. It rarely proves every detail about the person's feelings or future.

Reject unsupported choices

An answer can sound realistic but still be wrong if the passage does not provide the needed clue.

Explain the link

Practise saying: because the text says A and B, the best conclusion is C. If you cannot explain the link, reread.
